A weekend by the numbers

I have mentioned that I like to do mental math. I think I got this from my mother who was always having us count things to keep us entertained in the car. Regardless of where it comes from, I can always amuse myself by doing mental math or by counting things. Sunday while out running I began by counting the homeless itinerant citizens as I came out of the park I run through at the beginning of my run.  After I got to the repetitive part of my run I needed something else to count and this is what I came up with for the weekend beginning at 6:30 pm on Friday and going to bedtime on Sunday.  Obviously I started this while running but some of it was compiled later.  This is in no way exhaustive, just what was easily quantifiable and vaguely interesting:

list-widget-nabeNeighborhood

  • 24 itinerant citizens in 2 parks
  • 1 adorable cat
  • 3 men running without shirts
  • 2 bags of poop bags left at the dog run

Shoppinglist-widget-bag

  • 9 dress shirts purchased
  • 6 pieces of fabric for casual shirts
  • 7  farm stands patronized at the market
  • 2 coffee drinks purchased at Peet’s
  • 1 butcher shop patronized
  • 1 shirt picked up at cleaners
  • 1 drawing left at frame shop

  • 3 glasses of wine consumed
  • 1 meatball eaten
  • 5 meals cooked
  • 6 artichokes cooked
  • 5 avocados needing to become guacamole asap!
  • 1 lunch eaten out

Houselist-widget-house

  • 1 hour in bath
  • 1 martini/1 glass wine = amount of alcohol needed to keep Wolf of Wall Street entertaining
  • 5 loads of laundry
  • 1 batch of tomato sauce made
  • 1 batch of gingersnap dough made
  • 7 shirts ironed
  • 4.5 newspapers consumed
  • 2 cups hummingbird crack nectar made/1 cup into feeder
  • 2 calzone made
  • 1 dishwasher load run
  • 2 sinks of hand wash dishes done
  • 1 small paper bag accidentally thrown into load of laundry
  • 4 reusable shopping bags cleaned

list-widget-yarnKnitting

  • > 1 round knit on scarf
  • 1 swatch made of finished vertical pocket for Cloudberry

list-widget-figureGetting Around

  • 4.5 to 5 miles run
  • 4 miles walked
  • 18 miles in the car

You may be wondering why I need to have all these things I am always doing to keep myself from getting bored.  I run commando–without music or electronic device!  I don’t have a smart phone (by choice).  So when I am out in the world, I am pretty much on my own.

If you want to see the full drawing of the ones that got cut off, click on the image.  I had fun making them–the yarn ball is from my branding–done by a professional!

While I have a smart phone I don’t run with it or anything other than my trusty timex ironman watch (though that has been replaced a few times since my first one in the early 90s) and I added a road-ID a few years ago for safety.

Depending on where I’m running I primarily either count steps between telephone poles … or certain types of trees. Though sometimes early in the morning, I count deer or wild turkeys!

    Adorable cats are the best.

I rarely see cats so it was notable. He looked like Shadow. Glad to know someone else is counting things!
