This is a series of Introduction Videos to better acquaint you with Jill Wolcott Knits. I’ve been meaning to do Introduction Videos, and am finally getting to it. Click the link for each video–it will take you to Vimeo to watch it. It should open in a new window so if you want to stay here, or look at something else, you may.
#1 General. Introduction – I was just practicing, but it came out well enough that I decided to use it despite the fact that I’m not wearing lipstick. This is just me chatting freeform. The piece on the Dress Form is called Remarkables.
#3 Jill Wolcott Knits Website. I discuss what’s on my website that might be useful to you. A little about why I don’t do things exactly the same as other designers, including Action charts. This is a link to Belon (I’m wearing Narrow Belon) (also on Ravelry if you prefer). I also mention my directional dyslexia. Here’s a link (read the comments!). There isn’t a lot of concrete information on it, and I never, to my knowledge, had trouble with reading or letters, but you can imagine as a knitwear designer, there is plenty of opportunity for confusion. The funniest one I can think of is that I often just use RS–even when I mean WS, because they both are R in my brain.
#4 Pattern Difficulty Levels. I talk about the language to define pattern difficulty, what that means in a Jill Wolcott Knits Pattern, and some of the extras you might find in a pattern from Jill Wolcott Knits. I end by forgetting what else I intended to say . . .
#5 Sizing Matters I explain a little about sizing, taking measurements, and how to find your shoulder width. There are sizing charts here on my website that you can download, as well as croquis showing where to take measurements. This is a really big topic, so it is just some icing. ASTM charts can be purchased. There was a book, but I got a 404 to my link. I’ve also written some blog posts: Making Sizing Adjustments, Making Sizing Adjustments 2, Why Am I That Size?, Sizing Things Up, Industry Sizing: Fashion, Knitting, and here is a link for Grading.
