If you are a knitter, you might want to get this issue of Love of Knitting. There are two of my pieces in it, Colliers Wood Shawl and Brixton Cap, and a third, Bromley Mitts, is the free download pattern to purchasers. I’m sure there are other interesting projects too. If you want pictures of Brixton and Bromley, I don’t have any–totally forgot to take them before I sent them off!
If you know me personally, you know that I never wear blue. It isn’t my best color and it just doesn’t excite me. Whenever I work for magazines I get blue yarn. Not surprisingly, it is generally seen as the favorite color of both genders. You can check out these links that came up in a quick Google search. It doesn’t really matter to me anymore for a couple of reasons:
1. I don’t knit most of my samples, so I do my swatches and I’m done except for finishing touches I need to do on the piece.
2. I don’t do that much work for magazines anymore, so it isn’t a big impact on what I’m working on.
I want to give myself a shout out because I did knit the cap and mitts. In blue, pima/silk from Frog Tree Yarns. I put the final edging on the shawl too. Because we were trying to make it from 800 yards of Black Pearl, and because these circular shawls begin to grow exponentially at some point, I had to do a little adjusting to make it all work. The knitter sent the nearly completed shawl to me, then I had to rip back a bit and redo to make my trim work out.
In all cases, the end results were awesome. So a little blue knitting didn’t kill me–and I don’t have to wear them, so it is all good. These were the first things I did for Love of Knitting and I cannot say enough about their great editor, Jennifer Burt. Lovely to work with, smart and funny. All my favorite things. But boy does she love blue! I’ve got three blue pieces scheduled for a future issue!
