Collars

I was leafing through the Early Fall 2012 Vogue Knitting the other day.  Okay, I’m not looking for patterns, so I just get to this stuff when I can.  On page 14 was a column on collars.  I paid particular attention because I’ve done a lot of collar-like things in the past year or so.  What I thought of was:  Cobweb Collar and Cuffs (whimsical to be sure!), Flounce Collar, Belon has a collar-like scarf option, I’ve added a collar to the Quartz Accessories pattern, and I have a new one just waiting on the professional photo called Saddle.

These are all fun projects.

I created Saddle to make Kintail smaller and more easily doable (you only cast on 450 sts!) and the Quartz collar uses the same pattern as in the boot toppers.  Belon’s collar was really just to use up yarn, but I had seen all the trend info on collars.  I immediately took up some other yarn and beads and began knitting one that is really a collar.   Look for something on this as I get closer to finishing it.

Cobweb can be done out of any sport weight, or even a sock yarn.  It would be lovely in mohair or angora or Suri alpaca too.  I love the felt balls, but if that isn’t your cup of tea, feel free to leave them off!  You could tie little i-cord bows in your web instead!  And don’t forget Flounce Collar.  I love knitting this one as it just has a great rhythm.  It looks a little stark in the natural shade, but I consider this another piece that can transform an outfit.  Think about packing it in your suitcase and matching it to tees or to plain dresses to make the same old thing feel special and new.  That’s what accessories are meant to do.
