I wrote this essay, Dress, Perfected, for One Thing New last year after meeting one of the creators at a tea put on by a mutual friend. I was, of course, wearing this dress!
I tend to forget what I do after it is finished and as I rush on to the next thing, but I was reminded of writing it as I put on the dress to wear to final presentations of my Brand Portfolio class as FIDM.
I recently fell back in love with dresses. I’m not sure when or why I fell out of love, but at some point it became much easier to wear tops and bottoms. Now that I’m in love again, I can’t quite fathom why I haven’t always worn dresses.
So I put on this dress (I’d been hoping the weather would cooperate!) and remembered the essay which spells out some of the experiences I’ve had in this dress. The shoes were purchased on a weekend we spent in Mendocino, probably 10 or 12 years ago. They were on sale (always a bonus) and I am always a winner when I wear them.
I always dress more formally on the last day of classes. Students have to do final presentations, and in Brand Portfolio, they are showing their work to a panel of my colleagues. It is a big deal. Since I fully believe our clothing telegraphs a lot to others, it is important for me to let them know just how much I value their hard work by being nicely dressed for their big moment. The bonus of this dress? It is completely comfortable!
