Getting Going

Provence from Classic Elite Yarns in Island Blue and Willow GreenSaturday night I (barely) started my swatch for the new Boardwalk Bag. I was so excited when I opened the box and saw the actual yarn. The colors are fabulous and I snapped some photos as soon as I unpacked it.

Today on the front page of the Style Section of the New York Times there was a photo of a Bottega Veneta bag in nearly identical colors. I’m not showing the picture here, but it is worth a click on the link to see it.  I’m using my colors in the same way–Island Blue as the MC and Wild Willow as the accent.Provence in Island Blue and Wild Willow

I am starting with the swatch pocket that I posted in my Ravelry Group to make sure I am getting gauge.  Don’t worry if you aren’t ready to start knitting yet–I’m just getting ahead of you so I can be ready to help as needed.  The final instructions for this gauge pocket will go out via email to those who have purchased patterns.  You can get the pattern from this website or from Ravelry and Craftsy.  Knitting officially starts on June 23, but Swatching starts on June 16.

We went to a really good play last night: Pen/Man/Ship by Christina Anderson at the Magic Theatre.  A World Premiere, this was a nice balance between being thought provoking and not preachy.  Bay Area theatre, in my opinion, always chooses preachy over allowing the words and acting to tell their story, which makes for less-than-enjoyable play going.  We find the Magic Theatre to be consistent in both provoking thought, and not thinking their audience is too dumb to figure it out on their own, and it is the only company we are subscribers to.  The set was really awesome too.  I always have some complaints about the costumes; they always seem to given slightly short shrift–as if the very thing I’m staring at for 2 hours wasn’t that important.  Fairly minor complaints on this one, but I did have some notes.

If you are interested you can participate in my social media experiment by liking my page on Facebook and posting that you have done so–if you have already done so, post anyway and you can be in the drawing.  If you’d rather post on Ravelry, you can do so here–after you like my page on Facebook!  I’m trying to see if Facebook will share more of my posts from my page if I have more likes–I think they are kind of judgmental, so I’m seeing if I can beat them a tiny bit.

Today’s run was uneventful except for having big thoughts, which I love. My challenge is always remembering to write them down so I don’t forget them.  Blackberries, blueberries and strawberries with our pancake breakfast; gazpacho, avocado & croutons followed by some cherries for lunch.  I’m off to do my weekly ironing–less than usual because I truly caught up last week instead of cheating by doing just enough.
