I’m taking a day here to talk about the upcoming, first ever, Local Yarn Store Day on April 21, 2018. Hopefully LYS Day is coming to a local yarn store near you. If your LYS belongs to TNNA they should be participating! So please, ask your LYS if they are participating and send them to this Local Yarn Store Day page if they need more information, or they can join the LYS Day page on Facebook.
What’s In LYS Day For You?
If your Local Yarn Store is participating, they will be using April 21, 2018 to show you just how important your patronage is to them, and how they can facilitate your knitting or crocheting life in a way that the internet can’t. Your LYS want you as a customer. They know they can’t be everything to you, so go in, let them know how they can meet your needs. While you are there, buy one of the unique to LYS Day products, sign up for a class, or increase your local knitting connections. The conundrum for every knitter or crocheter is how do we keep Local Yarn Stores as that important part of our knitting or crocheting lives when there is the wide open internet out there? This may be a time that you can share with your LYS Owner what you really need, or how they can meet your needs locally, or even just let them know that you appreciate them and plan to continue your patronage.
What’s In LYS Day For The LYS?
As a member of TNNA, your participating local yarn store can offer you products and access to yarn, notions, and patterns that will only be available through them beginning April 21 and for the balance of 2018. This is a day that they can set aside to show you what they offer you as a customer that you cannot find anywhere else. Each yarn shop has its own unique offerings and personality, and this is a special day to show off just how unique they are!
What’s In LYS Day For Me?
I am hoping that by having products tied to a particular design of mine I might get access to both LYS and knitting customers. It is hard to compete on Ravelry where there are just so many things being offered. As businesses we are all facing changing usage rules and applications of algorithms online, so relationships become more important every day. I’m not sure exactly how the logistics will work, but I will have a pattern that is available only through your LYS and will first be available on LYS Day, April 21, 2018. This product will only be available through LYS Day participating stores through 2018.
What Can We Do?
Customers. Let’s all encourage our LYS to participate. Any LYS can take LYS Day as an opportunity to participate in TNNA (The National Needlework Association) for the first time, in a new way, or as an ongoing supporter. Mention LYS Day to your LYS and ask them how they are participating.
Independent Designers. Think about how you can participate locally, or as a business. Questions? You can email me and I’ll seek answers, or go here.
Let’s make this a special day for the knitting and crocheting community, and make April 21, 2018 the first of many!
