My May focus is on Teaching. I am prepping classes for TNNA in early June, doing the preliminary work to ready for my classes in Taos, creating a class on Skillshare, and teaching my FIDM classes. One of the things I love about teaching is that I always learn so much in the process, so my May focus is exciting. Teaching is always a lot of work. What looks easy when you write up the class or propose a class you have already done before, almost always requires more work as you consider how you will present to each group.
May Focus for TNNA
I am doing two classes for TNNA. The first one is for designers or others who need to do projects in a variety of sizes–Grading. In two hours all you can hope to do is get the big concepts and some tools into their hands. I am thinking of clever ways to do just that. Plus the class is at 7:45 a.m.
The other class is showing some amazing techniques. I’ve actually written this one, and since it is likely to be shop owners primarily, I will focus not just on technique, but also how you pass it on.
It is now incumbent on the teacher to also sell the class. I’ve been remiss on promoting these classes, so I need to get on that aspect as well!
May Focus Taos
I think I’ve done all the things required to this point. I am teaching the same techniques class as at TNNA as well as a second one, with another set of amazing techniques. The focus is on the knitter in this venue, not on teaching someone else to teach, so even the same material needs to be presented differently. I am also doing a workshop on making art buttons which I love to do. It is more of a drop-in and make something set up. Want some help on multiple increases in a single stitch? Or maybe you want assistance on picking up stitches in a variety of scenarios. All those will be covered in another drop-in session.
May Focus Skillshare
I’m trying to do an online class on making Action Charts. Check this if you wonder what they are. I realized after I got into creating that class that I may have two or three classes, so I need to split it up. That will improve the chances of me getting it done this month.
