Dones and Planning Towards Done!

Planning towards Dones!2016 Dones!

Take a step beyond the to-do list to recognize the awesomeness of what you have completed–the Dones. Use the sheets linked below to record the process and the projects as you work through all the stages and move towards Done!

How do Dones differ from checking things off a to-do list? And why do you need another list? (You don’t, necessarily, this is just a tool.) Personally, I spend a few minutes each evening just reviewing the day’s Dones and appreciating the efforts put into them.

Celebrate the Dones!

Dones allow you to celebrate each step along the way and consider the completion of any part of a milestone as a worthy step-along-the-way. In my years of teaching and trying to be a disciplined project manager, I have found that too little time is spent on celebrating what we do (the Dones)–and a lot of time is spent on what we could/should/might have done. To Do lists are easy to grow, but a little time spent on the Dones can boost your enthusiasm, fill your spirit, calm your fears, and give you that extra momentum needed to get through every project on your list.

So join in celebrating the Dones! Use the forms below or use them as guidance, but spend time considering and applauding each Done on your list.

Share Your Dones!

Don’t forget to put your projects and completed milestones up on Ravelry too. Yeah, there’s a checklist for that! If you put a Jill Wolcott Knits® project into your projects on Ravelry I get notice each time you put in notes or add pictures. I’ll comment on your progress and help cheer your Dones on your way to your goal!

Blank Done! Knitting Planning-1 (67 KB) Record the steps as you work toward completion here. This is an important tool to staying on track toward Done!

Blank Done! Knitting Process (69 KB) Record all your completed knitting projects here. You want to get that Done! gold star don’t you? Record it here.

Blank Ravelry Projects (2 MB) A checklist (with room to make notes) to help you get those projects up on Ravelry. Having it where other people can see it can be a major tool for moving towards Done!
