I am clearing out and in the process, I am revealing past work for my own scrutiny. I can be brutal when I need to get rid of stuff. I know I shouldn’t take a trip down memory lane because it has all kinds of rabbit holes, so I was just going to open my portfolio so I could dump everything out. It is kind of embarrassing to say I really liked what I found! Instead of being chagrined by the shabby work I had done more than 15 years ago, I found work that I was quite proud of. Also, work and designs that I loved!
I threw out a bunch of stuff that seemed dated, but there was a some of this past work that still felt wonderful and interesting to me. I quickly closed things up and put them aside. I need to be clearing, not reveling in my skills and accomplishments.
Past Work as Prologue?
Then I went and grabbed some yarn which I had reluctantly put into the recycle bin to match to one of my old designs. I briefly considered how to make it current and what second yarn to use. I thought about finding knitters.
I mentally matched another yarn quantity to another design. I began to think about how to update these projects to be appropriate now. I began dreaming of doing an eBook of these designs updated, with fresh patterns. I got seriously excited. Even a little light headed!
Is Past Work a Rabbit Hole?
I have things I am working on. I have things I want to do. Is there any reason to revisit this past work and make it relevant? I’m going need to put these thoughts aside for now and get the other side of my closet cleared out. I’d love to know what you think. Reply below or email me.

Holy smokes, spend some time reveling in all your wonderful work! What is the opposite of embarrassment?
It sounds as if there was a gold mine at the bottom of the rabbit hole. When it’s the right time, after you have gone through the clearing phase, go for it! What more proof than you got seriously excited by the idea of updating some of your projects. Bravo Jill!
