Tonight’s the night. Well, it starts at 5:30, so I consider that a little early to be night. Anyway. Finished the knitting on my Ashland capelet at 8pm last night. Sewed the buttons on this afternoon, blocked the last bit then shot photos. First I did them on my dress form in her usual dress, but decided to put my dress on her to decide if I should do the ribbon embellishment. Here’s what she looks like. Remember, she has no arms, and I do.
As an aside, I bought this dress in 1995. I was a little larger than I am now, but this dress still looks great on me, despite the 18 years that have passed. This is black tie, but I didn’t feel like figuring out a more formal outfit, and Mitch voted strongly for me wearing this. I figured I might not be able to ever get away with wearing it again, and since it was the decidedly easiest option I had, I just went with it.
I have black opaque stockings with silver going up the back of the legs which I always wear with this. I don’t have proper fancy shoes either. I thought about getting something, but again, I really couldn’t be bothered. I will wear my current favorite 3″ heels that are dusty pewter with copper bands on the toes–we’re going with a slightly funky look. I keep thinking about Nina Garcia on Project Runway saying that long prom dresses were so over. That’s my rationale. I’m sticking to it. This should look great with my hair and a little evening makeup. I have a bag that will work too; it has a design in silver and dusty pewter on black leather. I will try my pearls, but default to a pin if that doesn’t work. Pretty sure no one else will look like me!
I will update the pattern for this slightly larger size and anyone who already has the pattern will get notified of a new pdf to download.
Gotta go get dressed.
