Description
Chios Cowl, is presented in the Pattern Tailor and completes Attached & Apart: First Course. Chios Cowl is customizable to any yarn, gauge, and measurements.
What the Pattern Tailor Does
The Pattern Tailor will do all of the calculations so that you can make a perfectly sized Chios Cowl in:
- yarn of your choosing,
- dimensions of your choosing, and
- on needles of your choosing.
Plus, you can choose to work it Top Down, or Bottom Up! There are written instructions and Action charts for both.
What You Will Find Inside The Pattern
Yarn consumption will vary depending on measurements and yarn weight. I have provided information on the two cowls done in lace weight (34g and 37g, 270 and 280 yards / 247 and 256 meters) so that you can compare to your yarn and measurement. I have also provided the information for the DK weight version I did, which is much more a cosy* than a cowl (150g, 563 yards / 515 meters).
There are 3 needle sizes, and you will need a BOR marker, optional stitch markers, and a tapestry needle. Also optional: a bead to sew at the back neck.
I love to swatch and encourage you to give it a try! Section 1 has instructions for making an in-the-round or I-cord swatch, as well as a flat swatch. Do what works for you. This is, after all, a cowl. If you do a swatch, and record your information, you will be able to apply it to two pullovers being released in Attached & Apart: Main Course in March!
This cowl combines Twisted Trio Rib on 3 different needles with Mesh — an open and airy counterpoint. The neckband is done on the smallest needle for stability, and the bottom trim is done on the primary needle and the largest needle.
There are GSRs (German short rows) in the Mesh to make the back hang at the same length as the front. The amount of short rows is completely customizable, and I provide a table for choosing a depth that will allow the back to hang even with the front. The DK version has more than twice that amount to create a lower back.
