Description

The Rise Up Collection 2021 is the product of seven designers, resulting in seven designs, and seven ways to Rise Up. Week 5-B has our Seventh Design, Phoenix, from Jill Wolcott Knits.
The common threads in Rise Up are stitch pattern, the underlying concept, and independent designers.  The result is seven unique takes on a common idea because we all process information through our own passions, experiences, and points of view.

Rise Up, the Collaboration

When you have fun doing something, you want to do it again, right?  A year ago we started planning our second collaboration, called Rise Up.  I used Viewpoint Colour, Volume 6, for concept ideas.

How can design address issues such as climate change, politics, feminism, racial injustice, and other social changes?  As I write this I don’t know what anyone else’s design looks like.  We’ve shared some snippets, but mostly we stay in our own lane so we can enjoy the reveal and release too.

Here are some of the phrases we used:

Ad hoc and spontaneous, . . . a quick and dirty design approach . . . the beauty of everyday materiality.
This . . . is a call to action, . . . a license for self-expression
Crafted and eclectic . . . with more people buying into the ideals of small-batch, local production and handmade goods

As a group we chose stitch patterns to drive our ideas.  Color was left to the designers.

Now we release the first two of seven designs, each reflecting the personal interpretation of Rise Up.
