Description
Planning your Time to Knit (T2K) can result in more knits! Cast on as many projects as you like, but when you calculate how much of your time you will need to get across the finish line, you are more likely to stick to your plan.
You can use the T2K information to make sure you have the time to knit. This will increase your knitting satisfaction, and your finished object numbers. It is often the impetus I need to press forward on a project.
Read this blog about time and planning and this one about decision-making.
Information for Time to Knit (T2K)
Collecting the information for Time to Knit (T2K):
- Your project to record how long it takes to knit rows/rounds.
- A stopwatch (your phone!).
- The T2K Input Sheet and the T2K User Guide.
As you are ready to begin knitting, start your stopwatch at the beginning of a row/round. Knit at least 1 full row/round. If you are working a pattern, it is best to work a full repeat or several rows of your pattern. This will take into account variations in knitting speed as you work across rows/rounds. I find that I am a little slow as I begin, then I forget I’m timing myself and my speed returns to normal. Don’t worry about needing to undo a stitch or two and rework them, that is part of knitting!
- After you stop the timing, write down the nearest number. If I record 8 minutes and 15 seconds, I might round up to 9 minutes, because that takes into account unexpected things.
- Write down how many rows/rounds you worked in that time.
- Fill out your Input sheet and go to the Pattern Tailor to get your answers! Look here for some help with fractional numbers?
