Description

The Yarn Remainder Finder (YRF) allows you to calculate how much yarn you have left based on the full ball/skein/hank weight and length.  Answer the questions on the Pattern Tailor tab (and the user guide) about how you want your data to appear and you are ready to go to the Pattern Tailor Customization Window.

This is now accessible as a Pattern Tailor product at no cost, not a page on my website.

When to Use the Yarn Remainder Finder (YRF)

Use this no-cost Pattern Tailor calculator when:

  1. Calculating how much yarn you have as you near the end of a project.
  2. Wondering if you will win at yarn chicken.
  3. For leftover yarn, find out how much length there is.
  4. At the end of a project it could be useful to record the yarn remaining for future use.

Why In The Pattern Tailor?

Calculators are being made available as a product because that is how the Pattern Tailor functions on my website because it is more efficient for me to have my “calculators” all in one place.  The benefit to you as a “purchaser” (these are all no cost) is that if/when there is an update or addition you will be notified.  If you love a good calculator, be sure to sign up for the Inside Scoop and subscribe to my blog on Substack so you are always up to date.

Answer these questions about how you want your data to appear and you are ready to find out the length of yarn remaining.  You will need a way to weigh your yarn: a kitchen scale is an inexpensive and great tool to add to your knitting — and your kitchen.

Questions You Will Be Asked:

Q1. Who is this for?  Use your name or other identifier.

Q2. What is the date? Use any date format.

Q3. Do you want to record data about your yarn in yards or meters?  Whichever is your preference.

Q4. Do you want to record weights in grams or ounces?  Whichever is your preference.

Q5. What is the name of your yarn?  Enter as much information as you like (for your reference).

Q6. What is the weight of the yarn remaining?  Enter this in the unit chosen in Q4.

Q7. How many grams/ounces are in 1 full skein/ball of your yarn? Enter this in the unit chosen in Q4.

Q8. How many yards/meters are in 1 full skein/ball of your  yarn? Enter this in the unit chosen in Q3.

The YRF will tell you how much yarn you have in either yards or meters, based on your answer to Q3!
