Swatch in Breeze from Anzula

I promised instructions for working a swatch in Breeze from Anzula. The stitch pattern I am using is one of my favorites.  When I found it in 2001 or 2002, I loved the energy it has.  It is called Tilting Ladder in Barbara Walker’s A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns.  You should read Ms. Walker’s description if you have a copy.  It is on page 210 of my very old copy.

The energy results from the slight angling of the stitch pattern, the cables in the center of the pattern, and the rib and eyelet lace fabric.  I have used it as a panel in the Latin Quarter Shell, worked in the round. The Shawl is worked flat and uses it as an all-over pattern.  I’m cooking up something new too.

Tilting Ladder Flat Swatch in Breeze

To get the drape-y open feeling we love for shawls, for my swatch in Breeze I used a US size 6(4mm) needle; you may find a US 7(4.5mm) or US 8(5mm) works better for you.  I have rewritten this stitch pattern to make it easier to see how the pattern stacks.  I also like to have every row written out so I don’t have to search backwards to work my pattern.

Tilting Ladder ITR Panel Swatch in Breeze

The Latin Quarter shell has Tilting Ladders as a panel in the center of both the front and back.  Work it with some stockinette in your swatch in Breeze and you have done a swatch for the shell!  I used a US size 3(3.25mm) needle; you may find a US 4(3.5mm) or US 5(3.75mm) works better for you.
