A central double decrease is a decrease that creates a spine. The stitches decreased are the outside stitches, which are twisted to fall behind the center stitch. It is a bit of a pain to do, but sometimes it is necessary.
The best way to mark this decrease is to place a marker before the central stitch because it doesn’t change.

- When you are 1 stitch before the marker, slip the next stitch to the right needle, going into the stitch to slip as to knit (twisting it).
- Slip the marker and the next stitch off the left needle or onto a cable needle, held in front.
- Slip the slipped stitch to the left needle.

- Put the marker on the right needle
- Pick up the loose stitch with the right needle and return it to the left needle.
Central double decrease accomplished! Two stitches decreased. –2
On WS rows, work all the stitches, slipping the marker when encountered.
