Standard bind offs worked after ribbing have a tendency to flair outwards, and look sloppy. That’s why some clever knitter in the past worked out a ribbed bind off.
Abbreviations:
K = knit
P2tog = purl two stitches together
K2tog = knit two stitches together
How to work a Ribbed Bind Off
Easy 1×1 Rib
K1, *bring yarn forward, return stitch to left needle, p2tog (new stitch and next stitch); put yarn to back, return stitch to left needle; k2tog; repeat from * across all stitches.
Easy 2×2 Rib
K1, return stitch to left needle, k2tog (new stitch and next stitch), *(put yarn forward, return stitch to left needle, p2tog) 2 times; (put yarn back, return stitch to left needle, k2tog) 2times; repeat from * across all stitches.
