p1-PB or PB-p1

P1-PB, is the abbreviation for purl one, and then place bead. While PB-p1 is the abbreviation for place bead, and then purl one. This stitch is used when you are working with beads in your knitting. It is similar to k1-bubble when you’re working with felt balls.

You start by pre-stringing your beads, then work as directed until you reach the abbreviation p1-pb or pb-p1.

How to work a p1-pb

P1, then pull bead into place after stitch just worked.

How to work a pb-p1

Pull bead into place after stitch just worked. Then purl the next stitch.

Pattern Specific Variations to this Technique

Sometimes, I include technique variations that are for specific patterns. I always include directions for specific techniques in the pattern itself, so be sure to also read any patterns you’re working on closely.

Place Bead (PB) Variation for Belon

At beginning of row, pull bead into place so that the bead will be on the YO after working the following k2tog.
