Why Good Friday? Because it launches several things for me! I’m vaguely aware of the Judeo-Christian celebrations going on, but this year I am not participating. In fact, we are having our St. Patrick’s corned beef for our Easter Dinner.
For me every Friday is Good Friday. It means I have gotten through a work week and now get to spend time with Mitch and friends, do things I don’t have time for during the week, and generally slow my pace a little bit. Oh, and martinis.
Good Friday: Lisse Hat KAL
I’m officially starting to knit the Lisse Hat again. Last time I did it it took about 8 hours and that included my screwing up the beginning and having to do it again. The only problem I foresee is that I am launching into this without doing a gauge swatch. Crazy, but a hat is just not big enough when I already know the pattern and all the techniques. I will rip if it isn’t right; I will not complain because it will totally be my own fault.
Good Friday: Clearing My Studio
I’ve been working on clearing out my studio for months. This week I made serious progress because I have archived a lot of stuff, really examined my priorities, and made myself let go of things. I have a little group of pens, and like items, which I plan to go through before the end of today. There is still much to do, but by doing it is small batches, I am making progress. I have read Marie Kondo’s book and get her approach, but it isn’t for me. I cannot tackle everything at once. That day will come soon enough. For now, small batches is working.
Good Friday: Clearing My Digital World
I decided I had to get my email InBox under control. I have gone from over 600 emails at the beginning of the week to six. I intend to have 0 by Monday except for what is actively coming in.
I have reworked my desktop filing system as well. Well, the top level of it, and really, only my Dropbox. I have gone from about 70 files to 32. All the files still exist, I just consolidated and I will tackle the next level in the near future. The purpose was to get it so I can see my options at a glance.
I have created a system for filing my camera uploads–if that is something you let slide, I suggest that you don’t. I have everything I take on my phone upload to my desktop because that is where I do most of my editing and where I can file things. I’m not a crazy photographer, but with Instagram, blog photos, my daily drawings, etc. it gets overwhelming pretty quickly.
I need to tackle my Evernote filing, which is a mess. I tend to make things too complex, and then it is hard to keep up and hard to remember where things are. Fortunately Evernote is pretty easy to search–otherwise I’ve made it hard to find things. I need to make it mirror my Desktop for clarity.
I am currently working on updating my techniques database. That has been mostly outsourced, but I am up-to-date on what I needed to do to get it moving ahead.
Good Friday: Having a Dinner Party
Entertaining takes a lot of thought and energy, and we’ve had so much going on that I haven’t done any this year. I am having guests tomorrow night. I have my menu planned and as soon as they are finished setting up the scaffolding in front of my house* I will go to the grocery store. Menu adjustments may need to be made based on available ingredients.
*We are getting the outside of our ground level plus four-storu house painted. The front ground and next two stories are only accessible via scaffolding. The back begins at floor 3 and it and the two upper front levels are accessible from decks. This is a real undertaking!
